‘Neurosarcoidosis and Neurological Complications of Sarcoidosis Treatment’

Soon the paper entitled: Neurosarcoidosis and Neurologic Complications of Sarcoidosis Treatment, by Mareye Voortman, Marjolein Drent and Barney J. Stern will be published in Clin Chest Med: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ccm.2023.08.005.

Clinical Care Points

  • In the diagnostic evaluation of NS, rigorous exclusion of other causes for the neurologic symptoms is very important.
  • Nervous system biopsies are difficult to obtain and therefore clinical and paraclinical diagnostic criteria were developed.
  • TNF-a inhibitors are probably the most effective drugs for the treatment of NS. Dose and duration of treatment should be sufficient.

to avoid a substantial risk of relapse.

  • If new neurologic symptoms occur in a patient with systemic sarcoidosis or NS, adverse drug reactions need to be considered, especially if the clinical change occurs shortly after the introduction of a particular drug.
